Aegis & Owl sold books in person today at the Kentlands Market in Gaithersburg, Maryland. In keeping with the bike-themed world from A Dream On Two Wheels, I brought all the merchandise and supplies (including the table!) on my bike trailer. Thank you to all the friendly locals who stopped to chat! I'll be back again every Saturday until November. Cheers!

Type a line or two, and tell everyone about your favorites! "...The owl was undeniably odd. The first time Sylvia had seen it, perched upon a statue and leached of color by moonlight, she had thought it was a bizarrely well-preserved portion of an otherwise badly weathered marble of Athena. When the bird had swiveled its head around and fixed her with a piercing glawkous stare, she had nearly yelped in shock. Since then the raptor had been lingering in the vicinity of the camp... as if waiting for them to do something interesting..."
Hi All!
Some folks have been asking what kind of book I'm currently writing, so I thought I'd put a little note out to keep everyone up-to-date. I'm presently writing a non-fiction book about my own experiences with my first year of wearing a corset. I've had so many people approach me expressing interest and curiosity, and so many fun experiences that wouldn't have happened without the corset, that it seemed time to tell the story that people have been requesting for a while now. I'm hoping to have the book done by the end of the year. (Whew -now that I've publicly stated a deadline, the pressure's on!) I've already had requests from people wanting to be notified when it's ready; if you'd like to be added to that list, feel free to send me an e-mail: [email protected] In the meantime, everyone welcome to check out the web-site showcasing my antique clothing collection: www.chrismancollection.weebly.com It includes some fun pictures of Victorian fashion presentations that my husband and I have done in the past. Have a great day! Sarah The aegis and the owl are symbols of Athena, greek goddess of wisdom and handcraft. (In roman times, she was known as Minerva.) The aegis is her gorgon-headed shield (she is also the goddess of war), while the owl sits on her shoulder and reveals unseen truths to her. The aegis and the owl represent strength and insight, hand-skill and mind-work.
If my studies of the classics have taught me anything, it's that specifying a single favorite amongst the gods is tantamount to begging to be struck down by the others. (Look what happened to Troy after Paris' decision -and they asked him to choose.) Let's just say I have a special affinity for Athena. "...A quick walk brought Emma to a quadrangle of imposing edifices enclosing a courtyard filled with cherry trees..." -From A Dream On Two Wheels
(Photo of morning light in the University of Washington's famous "quad") As I visited the Smithsonian Natural History Museum this weekend and had fun examining the kangaroos in the Hall of Mammals, I was wearing my Victorian sweetheart hat. Little did I know that when I got home I would find an order from Victoria, Australia, for a copy of A Dream On Two Wheels! Lots of thanks to the folks at Vignette Press -happy reading, and cheers!
This makes the third continent, and the fourth country, to which Aegis and Owl books have shipped: North America (USA and Canada), Asia (Japan), and Australia. I always said that I wanted my books to go even more places than I have, and I couldn't be more delighted to see that wish coming true. Thank you, everyone! P.S. I hope I haven't offended any Australians with the comment about the kangaroos -I do know there are other things in your marvelous country! I had the luck recently to be offered a book-swap from another self-published author. You can read his comments about A Dream On Two Wheels here:

"...As she was struck by the new-building smell of the place, she reflected that the shiny, fresh structure that housed the Computer Science department was oddly incongruous with its rodent-like denizens. Rat-like, they scurried furtively under the artificially lit vaulted ceilings, as though pursued by some ancestral memory of talons which might descend at any moment from above. Typical of the Computer Science department, that it would have students hanging around even on weekends, thought Emma..."
